About Me Mostly 2 to 3 day loops, with a couple weeklong trips too, likely going 2 weeks or more with upcoming severance. Lightening up but with an eye towards toughness and hiking convenience (secure drying on the trail. quick set up, etc...), maybe better food (and beverage) for most overnights. Then again I might want to do a spartan "fast n'light" overnight ... and the gear closet grows.
I'll update my gear list tomorrow ...

Re: Re: Solo
Solo is simpler logistically. Maybe a cpl days in warmer weather (no real rain forecast) is fine with acquaintances.

Public land (USFS, BLM) sales clear Senate - NY Times
Under this proposal that passed the Senate (nonbinding), looking like the U.S. Congress wants to sell everything but the National Parks. There is a lot more to it if you care to read the link deep...

Gorp.com still has some articles specific to certain regions. Here is a family guide to Yellowstone trails (not a link, just copy and paste): http://www.gorp.com/parks-guide/travel-ta-family-da...

Low mileage : Re
I'd say the Magdelenas or better yet the Gila with a rental car. The nearest option would be driving ~ 90 minutes or so into Water Canyon southwest of Socorro NM on 60 (a bit of a gravel road ...
