About Me I'm getting back into backpacking after several years' hiatus. All my gear was circa 1979, so I've been gradually replacing it with lightweight new equipment. I will be retiring in 4 more years and then plan to do all the trails I've dreamed of doing. I also love xc-skiing and mt. biking. I plan to move to Oregon for retirement. Besides the outdoors, I love early and classical music;I play Baroque recorder and harpsichord. I'm a bookworm, I enjoy writing and quiet get-togethers with close friends.

Re: Newtown...
I think we have been sold a bill of goods of fear; that we have been brainwashed by the gun manufacturers, distributors, and those who depend on the profit from guns, to think that there's an e...

Re: Tint and Lumens...

Re: Newtown
God, it was so awful. And right before Christmas made it even worse. Can you imagine the parents who now have to either return or pass on the gifts they bought for their children? I ache so for the...

Re: REI currently working on new return policies
Alex, I saw that kind of stuff, too. There's always someone who has to abuse the system, no matter what the system is, and ruin things for everyone else. I can't say I blame REI.

Re: Multifunction Watches
Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Very much appreciated. I'd heard a lot of good things about the Suunto watches. I'll check out the ones you've suggested. Thanks again!

Re: Re: Backpacking in Nevada
Nick - these are beautiful trip reports! Thanks for sharing the links. Your photos are great. The area reminded me a lot of Canyonlands. I really enjoyed your reports. I can't wait to check out...

Re: Backpacking in Nevada
Thanks, Bruce. I'm really fascinated by petroglyphs. When I took my Outward Bound course in Canyonlands, we came across a lot petroglyphs. Amazing when you think how long they've lasted.

Thanks so much, James. I was reading about the Elko area and it sounded great. I'll definitely get in touch if I have any questions.
