Mountain Laurel Designs and Arrowhead Equipment both sell synthetic quilts. Although I don't know if they have any in the 10-12oz range.

While you may not need one for rain protection, you may want one for dirt and wind protection. A lot of the dirt is so fine that it will easily pass through the noseeum mesh on your tent body.

Same reason you can boil an egg in a wax paper cup filled with water over a fire. Not a scientist but I believe the water diverts the heat from the paper cup/aluminum so that it does not reach the...
