yes... You do not actually *NEED* to filter with the steripen. Filtering is only needed to remove big things that gross you out.

This is only for emergencies? I'm trying to understand why you would need an emergency day hiking cook system. Are you planning on bringing emergency dehydrated food, or are you boiling water...

historically it was wax, no they use plastic. I don't which exact type of plastic though.... it could be teflon unless they have found a cheap alternative that works as well (or better) Tef...
