My Locale Wet & Humid Southeast....
About Me My stomping grounds are the SE US, and 90% of the time, somewhere on the AT in GA, TN, or NC. Other times I enjoy going to the Smokies, or other smaller wilderness areas such as the Savage Gulf area.
Most of my trips are between 2 - 5 days long, with rare 7 day long trips. My total pack weights are generally under 20 lbs, unless trying new gear, or carrying extra for the kids. In the dead of summer, I enjoy SUL hikes, and have given thought to XUL (almost there...)

Re: Luke's eVent jacket
Sorry, I thought you were wanting pockets in a sil jacket? If so, his sil jacket starts at $79 (almost half of the Montbell jacket) and has an average weight of 4.2 oz (2.5 oz lighter than the Vers...

Maybe see if Luke from Lukes Ultralite can add some to your existing jacket, or order a whole new one?

Re: easton nano nail stakes
I cannot comment on those stakes, but on a hike last weekend, a buddy broke 2 full size MSR Groundhogs (the real deals... not the cheap knock-offs) trying to get his tent staked out. The head on th...

Re: Reinforcing holes - back wall angle
I will be interested to hear how this turns out for you. I still have doubts about making a hole in the tarp... I feel like the stress alone will immediately begin to stress, and stretch, the hole,...

Re: Re: Cuben canopy & sil floor
Yeah, the price point is pretty significant. When I bought mine it was at a preorder price, which I think was around $390, so not cheap by any means... However, I think it's pretty evident here...

Cuben canopy & sil floor
John, I like the idea of a cuben canopy and a sil floor. I feel like it uses the best suited materials in the best area's. This is why I really liked the Yama Mountain Gear Cirriform SW tent I ...

"I’ve thought about a different system to attach both the tarp and skirt to the top of the pole. I plan to make a small hole in both pieces at about 1 ½ or 2 inches from the edge (in the ce...

Re: Tarp size: is 10 x 4,5 enough???
I have a 6.5 x 10 foot cuben tarp that I have set-up in half pyramid and used a rain skirt and an umbrella to block the front. There is a lot of room inside, however, it can still be easy to run ag...

Re: Checking in: Sawyer Mini
Don't chunk the Sawyer bags, they will work, although, maybe not as long as the Evernew bags. I am still using both brands. The Sawyer bag has delaminated, but it doesn't appear to have mad...

Re: Update: New Zippered Beak
Nice tarp! I agree with the others, it looks a little small, but the photo of you laying in it doesn't look so bad. What about with a pad though? Are you using an inflatable or a ccf pad? Is...
