About Me I retired in October 2006. Previously a meteorologist for twenty years with the U.S. Air Force, an advanced skydiving instructor for the R.A.F., EMT, Ambulance Dispatcher, and an operations manager for a trucking company.

Regular wilderness and trail hiker. Presently in the SUL gear range.

I can almost always be found in the company of my Welsh Springer Spaniel, "Quoddy"...that's where I got the trailname Quoddy.

I wrapped my Firelite 550 handles with 3M glass cloth tape. It insulates well and is flame resistant... I haven't managed to burn them yet on either alcohol or canister stoves.

It depends upon the time of year, but in the colder seasons I go for a lightweight down jacket/parka and sometimes lightweight down pants to make the hours before sleep and the early morning hours ...
