About Me I've been a backpacker for 40 years. I taught hiking and cooking merit badges at Boy Scout Camp when I was 14. Ran class 5 rapids on the New River in a open canoe back when it was a wilderness experience. Lately I'm a cube dwelling software architect during the week and a mostly solo backpacker on the weekends. Look for me in the Monongahela National Forest.

The Exped Air Pillow
Another vote for Exped. Mine is 2.75 ounces in the stuff sack, 3 with patch kit. I like the shape and that I can adjust the firmness. I've also found that it is good about not sliding around.

Synmat UL sides
I can confirm that the Synmat UL does indeed have slightly larger side tubes and that they do help keep you on and centered on the mat.

Cook Kit
>> 5. Your gear list must include a cook kit I'm thinking that a cook kit doesn't have to include a stove. Some of my best back-country cooking has been with sticks or a grill.

small single pocket
There is only a single pocket on the inside of my Peak XV and it's too small for a water bottle.
