I prefer the Ultra Pod. The 'UP to trekking pole' is just one example of why it works for me. The Gorillapod is fun to use but the small one is not as versatile (for me) as the UP.

Gear invention that's a problem to develop
Having tubing going from the straps to the pack and adding channels as well, will just increase the weight per volume ratio and add complexity for cleaning. I think that many already have problems...
