Critical measurements for a custom-fit pack?
Thinking about a (long-term) project to make a pack as custom-fitted as possible, i.e., eliminate *unnecessary* adjustability by shaping the pack to fit just one person. Looking through older ar...

Re: Re: Got my Wonderland reservation!
Billy, Snail mail--"date issued" is the day after I faxed the request. Not sure the NPS has heard of email yet.

Got my Wonderland reservation!
A little surprised--first, to get confirmation just a few days after we faxed it in. Second, to get exactly the days and sites we requested. Going with my wife and 13 year old daughter--first ti...

Re: Re: Re: Emissivity of alumized Cuben, Silnylon
Wouldn't having a pad between the bivy bottom and you do give an air layer? (Disclosure: never used a bivy--not sure I will in the near future. Except that I'm not fond of the bugs (and ...

Re: Weight
No problem, Colin. Dutchware emphasizes that this 1.06 oz *finished weight*, and contrasts it with 1.4 oz finished weight of the more common silnylon. Guess we'll see. Doesn't Golite use...

Re: Argon silnylon
Very interesting. Ordered some of the red. Seems like even if it's too thin for a shelter, it might work well for a poncho or bivy bottom, or even VBL clothing.

Re: aquamira vs filter
I prefer no treatment at all if I'm confident of the source, but for the past few years I've used Aquamira drops when I think the water needs treatment. Convenient, simple. If I treat heavi...

Re: Should we support stove manufacturers who don't supply replacement parts?
I'd bet Roger Caffin has the tech specs you need for the o-ring. A supplier like McMaster-Carr (McMaster.com) is prob. a better bet than a local hardware store. Looks like the FMS-116T (Fire...
