I would ditch the bear canister and just hang my food, bears are just not an issue down here. I would also be concerned about condensation inside the tarptent the humidity can be 80-100% at times.

I think you should try your tarp out without a bivy and then decide. Try not to overthink your gear simple is best IMO.

Bug bivy
IMO the bug bivy + a flat tarp is the way to go. I am not a fan of the tarptents because of condensation. My friends have hennesy hammocks and love them but I just cannot sleep with my back arched.

thermawrap vs cocoon
Is the tharmawrap parka much warmer than the cocoon? It has heavier insulation I dont know if that makes a difference.

Man I use a tarp in Georiga all the time I have no problems with the bugs. Deet is your friend.
