My Locale LazyBoy in my Den - miss the forest
About Me Backpacking for nearly 50yrs-shorter trips less than a week.

Outdoor interests (in no particular order): medicinal/edible wild plants of New England, observing wildlife (inverts & verts; and owls at night), insect collecting, dog training, night hiking, HEADLAMPS (for those night hikes), kinesiology/bio-mechanics of hiking (particularly trekking pole use), testing L/UL gear, unconventional packing systems, & backwater microbiology, & oh, yes, the darkside - motorsports(auto racing).

Now pretty much "grounded" so to speak.

Re: 12 oz three season synthetic sleeping bag
Sounds a lot better than the traditional "space" blanket. However, it claims to have about 3/4 of the thermal resistance of a in-home winter bed quilt, or about 2.25x the warmth of a i...

Eric, excellent reply. Really appreciated reading it. Two points: 1) I use a Wild Things Epic treated nylon windshirt - works well, but as you say, not quite as breatheable as SOME windshirts....

Re: Blisters
All sound advice. Fix the problem is the right way to go. However, until then, why wait until a blister forms? A piece of moleskin or duct tape (anything that will properly act as a fresh in...

Something i learned a couple of yrs ago fr/a Scandanavian poster: the Akto can be double-poled; the pole sleeve is supposedly intentionally designed large enough to accept two poles, thus reducing...

Which seams need to be sealed? I would guess that the ToddTex-2-ToddTex seams are taped. Are there ToddTex-2-Nylon/Poly seams that require sealing (top and bottom fabrics interface)? Or, zipper ...

Re: tarp/bivy in prolonged rain?
Sometimes in the Spring in New England we can get days of continuous or near continuous rain and no sun. In these conditions, i opt for a synth. sleeping bag. Also, where permitted a fire may hel...

I bet the kind folks over at TiGoat might have some silNylon laying around, plus a zipper or two, and some webbing & buckles for belts that would make a nice fanny/lower-abdominal pack. Both...
