About Me Originally from Louisiana, I enjoyed camping in my Boy Scouting days and eventually became an Eagle Scout. Many years later (2002), I discovered backpacking after going on an REI multisport trip to Alaska. My first backpack was to Grand Canyon, and I was hooked!

The best poles in that price are not the costco poles but the outdoor products poles with black diamond flicklock mechanisms found at Walmart for less than 30 bucks a pair.

Temperature means everything. Anything near 80+ degrees and I plan for more water or cutting the miles down.

For that I would drink a liter in the morning and carry two liters if there is no water available. Everybody is different. Some would require 1 liter and others 3+ liters.
