Our troop took a vote, and we're going to enjoy Philmont as we drive up Cimarron canyon to Eagle Nest, and on to Red River. I think we'll have just as much fun base camping at my vacation h...

Quilt cost - I don't get it.......
I really like the idea of quilts, seems logical to me. What I don't understand, is the cost. It seems to me that they are simpler to make, easier to make, and use less material. But when you pr...

I'm not saying blisters will never happen. Get the right set of circumstances in the right order, anything can happen to anyone. I always carry some kind of tape. And some people may be more pr...

We have haze all the time, but ours is from the Mexican power plants that were exempted from EPA regs for NAFTA. Thanks again Washington DC. Starts at Big Bend, moves north.

I read the report, need to read it again. I think we're bailing on Philmont, and going to either the Wheeler Peak Wilderness, or Pecos this summer. Probably Wheeler Peak, since we can camp in m...

Pretty hard to limit your group size in Scouts sometimes. And I thought everyone taught and practiced LNT, but who knows. I am going to do the "patrol vs. patrol" idea on least impact cam...

Am I the only one that thinks it's odd that you get blisters after a shoe is broken in? I'd either change shoes, change insoles, or wear a liner sock. I just can't consider ongoing blis...

Marmot Atom Mens Regular 40 Degree
Nice bag. 1/2 zipper is kind of a pain, and makes it hard to use as a quilt. Seems true to rating.

Replaced my Exos 58 with this, much more comfortable, with more weight. Got a deal on a 2008 model, and added the dual stays. A lot bigger pack than I'll use most of the time. Gained some weight o...

ULA Circuit
Switched to this for more durability, and the ability to carry more water in the desert. Works like a champ, and you couldn't ask for better customer service.

I have to ding it a little for the hip belt. I think the hip belts on the large runs small, because it didn't wrap around me enough to be effective. And that may not be fair to ding it, because al...

Golite Ultra 20
Mine kept me warm in the upper 20s, so I'm happy. I'm not completely sure it would reach 20, and keep you warm for 8 hours. But it's a great product for a great price.
