About Me The top of the mountain is more an afterthought than a destination for me. Its the trees and creatures, the weather and people along the way that make the walking good. It's why it's always so hard to come back down. And why, with the odor of days imprinted in synthetics, my coming back down is hard for others, too!

Re:Why Backpacking?
If everyone knew and felt what we do about being in the outdoors, the experience would probably be something akin to backpacking on a mountain top freeway. You Americans are incrediably lucky to...

Re: Miguel is the MB "Philosopher"
A double bind, that. UL addiction and MB addiction rolled in one. If I go without buying some kind of new MB gear every month I go into convulsions, even if it is just a color change! It's quit...

Re: Used Goods, eBay, and Asamayama.
Will have to give eBay a try. One thing I really want to sell (because I want to buy a smaller and lighter one) is my Nautiraid Raid 1 folding kayak. At 25 kilos it is just too much for me to carry...

Re: Miguel is the MB "Philosopher"
Gawd, don't call me a philosopher! I'd rather be out there wearing nothing at all than to spend all my time contemplating MontBell gear. Most of all that volume of MontBell are little items...

Re: Re: re:Layering Montbell UL SS Down Huggers
Well, if Brett is the MontBell Pimp and Ben the MB Guru, then I wonder what I must be? Just out of curiosity I spent some (oh so productive!) time counting up just how much MontBell gear I have acc...

Re: Favorite Item and Question For Ryan About BD OneShot
I have to ask what you mean by "favorite". Favorite as in "I use it all the time" or as in "Man, this is cool!" For the "use it all the time" category I&#...

Re: Rand, saw T.D. in Tokyo!
Brett, the people at OD Box in Okachimachi actually follow the threads here, I think. They always seem to be up on all the latest UL gear, so they must be following something like that on the Ameri...

It's good to see both of you, pj and Franco, back in full swing. And to see the return of humor on this site again. After all, when I'm up in the mountains, it's not the gear really th...

Re: montbell superstrech: what temp do I need?
Another benefit of the stretching is that the elastic has a tendancy to close the gaps and keep the bag close to your body. So in one way the stretch makes the MontBell bags warmer than normal bags.
