My Locale South Texas
About Me My first "lightweight" trip involved me tossing gear and spare clothes out of my external framed pack the night before a trek in southern Colorado. Now, I experiment with and design (my wife calls it "twiddling") some simple, lightweight gear and carry loads that have become dangerously flirtatious with the SUL barrier.

In south Texas, if you're a hiker, biker, or runner, you don't have to deal with elevation or cold temps. However, you do have to like the feeling of sweaty silnylon next to your skin on a 100 degree, 90+% humidity day.

Re: Re: Re: Re: resurrection - felled seams on a cat curve
Roger, That's good to hear - I think I'll hold off on the felled curved seam until I have a bit more experience under my belt. I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the seam you describe ...

Re: Re: JT's Quilt Materials
I made a convertible footbox like the JRB No Sniveler quilt. It's a flat quilt with a couple feet of velcro (Omni-tape in my case and with the JRB) down each side at the foot end. You can close thi...

Re: Re: resurrection - felled seams on a cat curve
Jay and Vick (or anyone else) Do you feel that a felled seam is necessary for a ridgeline? I'm actually building a two-man tarp/tent with a double ridgeline similar to the Squall 2. For the ridg...

Re: How do you mark on nylon?
hmm... sharpies have always made a nice strong mark for me. Are you working with a black fabric? If so, I used a white fabric pencil - it didn't work great, but at least left a visible line. BT...

Hi Jay, That does help quite a bit - that's what I usually do, so it's nice to know I'm in good company! Your previous MYOG articles have been fantastic - can't wait to read more. Ben

Re: Re: resurrection - felled seams on a cat curve
Vick, Thanks for the excellent instructions. I took the day off work today, and spent some time measuring, planning, and cutting. I used your technique for drawing the cat curve - as you predict...

resurrection - felled seams on a cat curve
I've read back over this thread with great interest - some excellent info from PJ and VH here. As a fairly novice sewer, I'm wondering if any of you folks have tips/tricks for sewing felled seams o...

Carey, I'm not sure I understand it myself, but I've also noticed that my packs carry better if the closure pulls the pack in towards my shoulders rather than out away from me. Theoretically, ei...
