Help with Arizona/Utah hike plan in May-June suggestions?
Lots of good dayhikes in the Moab (Canyonlands/Arches) area. Bet you'd fry in June though, unless you went into the LaSal mountains. If you go there, PM me for directions to Little Wild Horse c...

Pretty awesome. But I'm always kind of amazed that someone would leave where you live to come down here.

Wind Stress on Cuben
And I was going to say, someone should just call North Sails. They have a few years putting cuben under some really high loads.

That clementine color is actually less loud than what I usually wear on the bike, but it should get the job done.

lightest windshirt that can withstand backpack abrasion
When I found a Houdini at Realgoods for $43, I decided to just go with public opinion, and send the Golite Dakota back. Plus I get a hood, and full zipper. The downside is it's a horrible orang...

No New Gear 2012
It counts, but admitting it makes you get a punch in your man-card. One more and you lose it.

Skurka can't get no love
Consider the source. If Trailspace was a computer forum, they'd all be proclaiming their love of the 80286 processor. They're a little behind the times over there.

Top Ten Bikepacking Trails
We were in Canyonlands in November, watching some guys go down the windy part of that on mountain bikes. Looked like a blast. Made my legs hurt just thinking about coming back up it though.

How often backpacking?
Apologies to the OP for helping "chaff" it. We try to backpack 2-3 times a year, but it's tough, kids today are almost universally weinies.

Nice bag. 1/2 zipper is kind of a pain, and makes it hard to use as a quilt. Seems true to rating.

ULA Catalyst
Replaced my Exos 58 with this, much more comfortable, with more weight. Got a deal on a 2008 model, and added the dual stays. A lot bigger pack than I'll use most of the time. Gained some weight o...

ULA Circuit
Switched to this for more durability, and the ability to carry more water in the desert. Works like a champ, and you couldn't ask for better customer service.

I have to ding it a little for the hip belt. I think the hip belts on the large runs small, because it didn't wrap around me enough to be effective. And that may not be fair to ding it, because al...

Golite Ultra 20
Mine kept me warm in the upper 20s, so I'm happy. I'm not completely sure it would reach 20, and keep you warm for 8 hours. But it's a great product for a great price.
