My Locale Sunshine State
About Me Began hiking in the Carolinas, some in Virginia and now in Florida - much less variation in terrain, I'm sad to say, but beautiful in its own right. A Gatewood Cape w/Serenity is my primary solo shelter nowadays.

I'm also into kayaking & fishing.

Re: Hexamid Solo or Pocket Tarp
Setting up the tarp reduces the width, invariably, so a square is good. Oware's square tarps are the most versatile I've seen. Though anybody's would be just as good, with appropria...

Re: Shelter that doubles as hammock tarp?
A golite poncho tarp works as a minimalist tarp over short hammocks. MLD's Pro poncho might work, and would be a longer ground shelter, too. A Trailstar could work but hanging the peak effe...

Re: Looking for a decent poncho/tarp
I love my Gatewood Cape, but at 6'1", I wish it was longer. IIRC, Brett, you are a good bit taller than me, correct? I wouldn't recommend it in that case, although I recall one mid 6...

Re: lightweight fleece hoodie or really light down parka
Regarding Merino hoodies, Yes they exist. I really like my I/O Bio hoodie. 6'1", 180lbs - I wear a Large and it fits snug but nice.

Re: Inner Ring
Thanks for the tip, D S, on the ring removal - worked like a charm and I don't know why I didn't think of it. It has been the reason I haven't taken the BD can on a trip! Duh. I ha...

Re: IMUSA folding handles & "platypus" for alcohol fuel storage
Nice mods! Several have tried the little bags for fuel or whiskey. I haven't heard of a failure, that I recall. Just put it in a snack size ziplock baggie until you've had some experie...

Re: Alternative to the Packa?
I have a 10D Packa. It is LIGHT and waterproof. Just be careful, as it is not (I feel - but I haven't damaged mine) as durable as heavier material. It is most definitely tougher than D...
