My Locale Boulder, CO
About Me I started backpacking as a teenager in southern appalachia. My summers in college were spent in mountain heaven, glacier national park. Since then, I've lived and played in the high sierras, the cascades, and now the colorado front range. Walking in the mountains with a light pack never seems to lose its charm. I recently picked up a bad habit called climbing.

Eric covered the advantages quite well. I'd only add the SUL style cottage vests, like luke's ultralight or in my case borah gear vest work especially well as booster layers. If layered pro...

diff condtions/diff gear
For me it depends on the season. I went on a multiday back country ski trip in the San Juan's this April. We were camped up high where winter still clung to the peaks, and it slipped into the t...

I got one & its perfect for what I'll mainly use it for: mountain runs where I want a little extra insurance (or to take leisurely breaks at lakes and summits etc), SUL style backpacking, a...

the breakfast burrito line was out the door on saturday, so I crossed the street to check out the montbell store. Kinda wish I hadn't because I tried on one of these, and now I want one. I'...

arc blast vs. gg gorilla ?
Anyone tried both or own both of these packs? Mainly curious about how they compare comfort wise. (I've owned a gorilla & it was the most comfortable that I've ever used.)

Ultimate direction Fastpack 20
Been on the lookout for a vest style fastpack. These look promising & they just got in stock at UD. I have one in the mail, and at least in a slacker kind of way, I'll get back with early i...

nice shoes that aren't altra or innov8
wow, the innov 8 and the altra shoe bias is pretty strong here. I don't like the fit of either, and altras made me feel like I was walking on wooden boards, not agile at all. And it was only re...

Gossamer Gear Gorilla
I'm very impressed with this pack. I tried out a few packs for a planned AT thru hike (didn't pan out yet), and this was far and a away my favorite. With the stay and sitpad, the pack conforms...
