Trail runners here, too. The only shoulder-season/rainy forecast addition I'd make would be maybe adding a pair of neoprene socks with a very thin wool liner. Then I'd have wet but warm fee...

1. A classic loop from Portland is Eagle Creek to Wahtum Lake and back on the PCT. This can be done as an overnight but there are enough things to do and see that you could stretch it to a leisurel...
