My Locale Northern Minnesota
About Me I have been backpacking for over 30 years, all over California, plus many western states and Minnesota. I hike year-round in all weather, and average 500+ miles (800+ km) per year. I make a point of using lightweight gear, and smaller volume packs. Doubting I can ever be truly UL, I try to be as near to it as I can yet still be comfortable. I start early and hike hard so as to enjoy the afternoons exploring/chilling. I usually take a freestanding tent and enjoy hot meals at night. If not hiking solo I am usually with brother-in-law Dave.

netting
+1 on the netting. What I found even worse there was the deer flies. They are used to biting buffalo it seems and were biting us right through shirts.

Interesting time killer
My 3-day weekend fell apart so I decided to do some light reading... ;-) Personally my take is just that if SMD told him they would refund the shipping they should have. To not do so is pretty l...

looking for feedback
My kids asked to get quilts after using mine each time I got a new one to "camp" in the front room. They used these for a couple seasons until they outgrew them. http://tinyurl.com/bp2...

Hire Franco
What all the manufacturers need to do if they scrap this idea, is to hire Franco to do one of his string models of every tent put on the market. Good grief, easy CAD is making him give up the st...

I was impressed that they used their own Meta 2 as the example of how a huge floor space can be misleading. I own one and love it solo but when I shared it with Dave and one of our members here bot...
