About Me I'm over 50 years old but I have only been camping regularly for the last 14 years. I backpacked once about 16 years ago and then tried it again 10 years ago. My backpack itself weighed almost as much as my base weight for all my gear now. Then I read Ray Jardine's book as my first book on backpacking and started down the path of ultralight about 8 years ago.

In 2008, I had major back surgery and thought my backpacking days were over until I found a thread about using lumber packs.
