hiking poles: airport/travel question
Is packing hiking poles an issue for airplane travel? Obviously, they can't be brought on board (!) But I am wondering about just taping mine to the outside of my pack. Any experience on this?...

Jeff, I dont mean to use the poncho as bivy protection, but as a bivy itself. Anyone done that? you know, like wrap your sleeping bag in a poncho tarp somehow? jus wondering.

Hennessy Hammock Asym Tarp as Solo Tarp
ditto on that: the tarp is way too small for me on it's own. I wouldn't use it like that. It is barely sufficient for a hammock. Definitely you would need a full waterproof bivy for this...
