Re: Re: Roll-Up Soft Bottle + Steripen recommendations
I wish I could find some of the old 20oz Gatorade bottles that a steripen would fit in. That'd be perfect. I've seen them, so I know they exist, but I've never found any in a store.

Re: Goretex Pro Jackets / Rain Jackets that actually last
A 3L Gore-Tex shell should do the trick. Would recommend actual Gore branded laminate instead of a knock off. I got a pro deal on an Arcteryx Alpha LT (12 oz, 3 layer Gore Tex Pro shell) about five...

Re: Roll-Up Soft Bottle + Steripen recommendations
The only thing I know of is the nalgene canteen which is pretty big and heavy. I use a 0.5L HDPE nalgene plus a 1L platy. Still looking for a better system. I've had no problems with the rec...

Re: Hiking from a base camp in RMNP - will gear be stolen? Should we stash it somehow?
It has never happened to me, but I've had friends have stuff stolen out of tents in the back country. No way to say how likely it is or not, but if you're worried you could bring a green or...

Re: Timing my East Sierra family hike
Bugs are mostly gone now, will be completely gone by the end of August. Usually the weather starts to become less stable and it gets colder around the end of September. October is a great time to g...

Re: Tenkara line management
Bill, I'm not a spin fisherman, but my understanding is things like Z-Rays and Panther Martins imitate small fish kind of like a wooly bugger fly would. The big fish certainly eat the smalle...

Re: Re: Re: Tenkara vs Golden Trout
Justin, the easiest way to learn is to go fishing with someone who knows what they're doing. That's how I learned. I'm pretty busy until the end of September, but if we end up going on ...

Re: Re: Rae Lakes loop
I think the permit station at Road's End opens at 7:00 or 7:30. They usually start giving out permits at 11AM the day before. There are a number of first-come, first-served campgrounds near Roa...

That shot of the crystal blue water of the South Fork is like river porn. Dave, you still insist on having a sign-in to comment on Wordpress? I've gone to comment a few times but the Faceboo...

I had the same experience as everyone else here. Joe got me a customized piece of gear on time and was very responsive to my questions and requests. Can't do much better than that.

The Ohm is my go-to pack for trips that don't require a bear can. You can fit a Bearikade in it, but it's not very comfortable because it bulges into your back. I put a plastic frame sheet fro...
