Dave, I disagree with you on the difference between bikes and skis. Yes in terms of mechanized transport and speed of travel - no in terms of impact. Skis have arguably zero impact on the wildernes...

Can you take out the insoles of your Boulder-X's? That'll free up space for the neoprene socks. I do that with some of my shoes and it works fine.
