It's really difficult to have only one bag for true 3 season use. It's miserable to be cold in sub-freezing temperatures, but it's also nearly equally miserable to be too hot in warmer...

If I understand your question correctly, it would ride slightly lower. Then again, I always loosen the shoulder straps when I take my pack off, as I find them hard to slip out of if I leave them...

Don't bother
With other normal overnight gear, a space blanket is not needed, in my opinion. Then again, I haven't had a real emergency to deal with. In cold weather, I do carry a couple of handwarmers....
