Re: Yosemite August trip with kids 9 and 11 years old
I think my son was 10, maybe 11, when we did a similar hike in July. We spent 1 night in the Valley, then 2 nights at Tuolumne Lodge before the hike. On the full day at TM, we hiked Lembert's...

Re: Estimating Mileage for Grand Canyon
I know very few GC hikers (none, actually) who think of hiking in the canyon in terms of "miles per day". Maybe trail runners or corridor rim-to-rim'ers do but not veteran backpacker...

Re: Re: First published gear list - will this work with a new light pack?
IMO, the weight savings going from a silnylon solo tarp to cuben is over-rated, especially as a "first pass" strategy. If you do the math, a 6'x9' tarp is 6 sq yds of material. ...

Re: Trying to lighten up more
I'm a desert hiker. Dry hikes mean carrying lots of water but that's usually compensated by nice weather and nominal rain gear and shelter. I don't know that it really makes a big dif...

Re: First published gear list - will this work with a new light pack?
The short answer is, yes, the Ohm (and presumably the Gorilla) could handle a 26lb load. BUT, based on your consumables, this is just for an overnight? If that's the case, and you think you...
