First need
The dye was just to make sure the filter mechanism was intact (that's what the user manual claims). I actually had one fail (probably improper back flushing) and the dye test worked to show it.

Spray vs bullets
Statistically speaking you are more likely to be injured by a charging grizzly if you shoot it than if you use bear spray. Why is debatable, but the numbers don't lie.
