Stove gurus: Did I melt the Lindal valve on my stove canister?
Had my Snow Peak GS-100 fail a couple days ago--actually it appears to be a canister failure, not the stove itself. Using a windscreen and boiling water, the stove suddenly quit. Temps were 70s...

Re: To shave a pound off of an 11lb base weight or not ?
I've got a pretty light base weight, but would have a hard time noticing a one pound difference. Two pounds (eg, full water bottle vs. empty) sure, but even that is just noticing a difference, ...

Re: Where to take 20 year old daughter?
I'll second the Northern Loop suggestion (Rainier NP). I've hiked it 3 or 4 times--never had problems getting a permit without reservation. Going mid-week helps. Part of the loop is on t...

Re: the DIY Gear Scramble-a-Thon!
Hi Aaron, Interesting project. I'm neither a hammock user, nor Colorado-based, but these questions occur to me: -Are all campsites along the CT hammock-suitable, esp. at elevation? Will y...

Considering an ice axe: BD Raven Pro or Camp Corsa?
A couple of times last year I ran into situations where an ice axe might have been a better choice than trekking poles. Also considering some walk-up summits, and more early season travel. Look...

Re: Re: Planning to climb Mt. Adams end of June with my kids--advice?
Thanks, Barry. The 11 yo is pretty tough--we recently did 45 miles in three days, with 18 miles on one of those days. 'Course, that wasn't at elevation, and didn't involve a lot of ...

Re: Re: Window shrink insulation as ground cloth? Same as Gossamer Gear Polycryo?
I also use "inside" window film as ground sheet, and have always heard it's identical to "polycryo" from GG. Works great--surprisingly durable. I consider lack of breathab...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Planning to climb Mt. Adams end of June with my kids--advice?
Thanks for the info, Elliot and Chris. Chris, I think you're talking about a different Mt. Adams. I'm talking about one of the Cascade volcanos, in Washington State. 12K feet and change.
