About Me I love the wilderness and UL gear.
I went on my first backpacking trip in Oregon when I was 6 weeks old (AUG72). It snowed all night long. When day light came I was the only thing left dry. Just wish I could remember it!

In 2000 my first UL trip resulted in a night hike to stay warm. Wrong gear.

Finished the BPL Scouting course (May 2010). Very cool. It was like closing a door. I feel like I can teach the principals now.

Does your kit include a gun
In my humble opinion being what it is. I don't bring a firearm. I practice stealth camping where it is less likely I will run into the predatory hiker hunting bear in the woods. I have on oc...

"best winter socks?"
Yes. You should be warm enough with sock liners and smart wool hikers even in the coldest months. Based on your comment about too tight of shoes you should rethink the way you where them. (I u...

ultralight backpacking in the desert, carrying water
I have read about the route you are taking. I would say you are taking to little water. Cache some at the half way mark and include some calories. In this case MREs are a good cache item. It is...

By the way. Half my fun is finding the deals and getting the gear cheap if possible. Maybe I can learn something along the way!
