Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: carbon fiber tarp pole breakage.
110-115 cm on the center pole gets me a tight to the ground pitch on my Trailstar. Unless the weather is bad, I pitch it at 125 cm to have a little more headroom. I wouldn't go shorter than 110...

Re: Removing pine sap from down jacket?
Hand sanitizer or alcohol stove fuel work great. Might take a little bit of rubbing to break the sap up, but it should come off with zero residue left over.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Trout question from a noobie
The skin won't come off by itself even when fully cooked. For frying in a pan, it's best to cut the fish into chunks to keep it from curling up from the heat. A little olive oil and 3-4 min...

Re: Ice Axe Question
Short is fine. Just make sure it's long enough to quickly and comfortably grab in self-arrest position. I have a 60cm axe and I'm 5'11 and it works just fine for self arrest, step cutti...

Re: Re: Re: length
I think a wide would be huge. I'd go for a 6' regular width if I were you. Side sleeping is fine without drafts if you use the pad clips.

Re: Katabatic gear sawatch
I don't have the Sawatch but I do have an Alsek. I'm 5'10 and 175 lbs. I have the regular size and I can pull it all the way over my head when lying on my back if necessary (though brea...

Re: Is a cuben tarp aided by being cat-cut in the same way as silnylon tarps?
Yes, the cat cuts are even more important for cuben because of the lack of stretch. For a rectangular silnylon tarp, you can pull some of the sag out of it; you can't do this with cuben.

Re: Which Tenkara Rod?
No experience with Tenkara Rod Co here. I've been fishing a Fountainhead Stone Fly 11' for about a year and have been very happy. The price is right and the quality is just fine. I'd bu...

I doubt they made any money on this. Joe has the wonderful policy of developing new products in collaboration with customers, so I wouldn't be surprised if they chalked this up to R&D and b...

I had the same experience as everyone else here. Joe got me a customized piece of gear on time and was very responsive to my questions and requests. Can't do much better than that.

The Ohm is my go-to pack for trips that don't require a bear can. You can fit a Bearikade in it, but it's not very comfortable because it bulges into your back. I put a plastic frame sheet fro...
