As long as it doesn't touch the bottom of the pot, where the flame is, directly, and you have water in the pot, silicone is pretty forgiving :-)

Honestly, you'd be surprised at what you can "Fauxbake"....and the methods to get there. PS: as for mega muffins see the "Texas Muffin" for size. Yes, it is a real thing....
