Re: Using Polartec Alpha in a two insulation jacket winter layering system
I still can't see any practical advantage in Alpha for the UL hiker compared to the baseline 100wt fleece w/windjacket combo. Best case it just reduces the hassle of adding/removing the layers ...

Re: Echo Vest
Again, another piece that leaves me puzzled. Other than PERHAPS being more packable, how can the Echo function any better than a cheap 100wt fleece vest, Piton Hybrid-like vest or a thin MB Thermaw...

Re: Alpha is a better mousetrap
I have gone back and forth on this. Like the concept but put off by the total weight of the jackets which so far all seem to heavier than a typical 100wt fleece w/UL wind jacket or most of the synt...

Re: Re: Cutting down a Large Xlite?
I say why take the risk and lose the LIFETIME warranty and destroy the resale value when you have OEM alternatives, like new improved Thermarest Trekker Torso length (pistachio color) and the Klymi...

Re: pasta pot - small
Yes, the small size is the one to get. The lid fits REALLY tight as mentioned. Very popular with UL hikers in Japan but doesn't get much traction on this forum.

Re: Japan
The huts in these areas are all staffed and prices, usually ~JPY8,000, will include dinner and breakfast and a futon in a shared room. The huts can be huge too, holding over 300 persons in the case...
