Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: "EN 13537 and LOFT"
I always add 10* to a quilt. Then again I make my own gear and what I make as a 30 degree quilt, others sell as there 20 degree model. I do have a 1 off EE 20* quilt and that thing has a crazy amo...

Next Project - Backpack MYOG
I would really like to buy an SMD Flight 40, but it seems a little big and heavy for what I do most of the time. I just love everything about it except the size and weight. So what to do? Make...

22.6 pounds for the average base weight is crazy Only wish I could do the PCT, but if I did it would be with a base of about 5.5- 6.5 pounds, depending on location. Love this survey.

Re: Pacific Crest Trail 2014 NOBO
Okay, I don't get why you need a full coverage shelter, a synthetic bag and a bivy? If you have a synthetic bag, why also a bivy? I could see it with a down quilt but no need with synthetic...

Re: Re: anybody break a bd ultra distance pole
When you pull the pole snap out there is a pushpin that holds it out. One of mine was not finished well enough in the carbon area just below the snap and shards of carbon came off while taking the...

Tri-fuel Titanium Wind Screen
I've always wanted a wind screen that could work with esbit, alcohol and wood. My Toaks 900 is a big enough platform to burn wood for a personal fire to keep warm. I may be a SUL junkie b...

Re: 750 vs 800 vs 850
A lesser lofting down is just that. Why should there be any difference in fill? It's more a weight issue in price than durability.

Doug, What they really need is drop downs for different backpacking items. You select "Backpack" It takes you to each type of backpack that has been discussed. You select that nam...

Re: And another one!
I really like how the Impetus 1.1 fabric doesn't settle on top of your bag. It is a stiffness to it that lets it trap air in between the bivy and bag. That is very important in repelling wate...

Jennifer, You won't care for this list but here is what my base was in my pack on the JMT. I did a lot of night hiking and needed the heavier light. Just showing you this so you can see ho...

Fenix L2D-CE
Everything else is just a light. For its weight, its 2-40 times brighter and lasts 5-10 time longer. Now they just need to make a 3AAA headlamp with a 5/15/35 lumens setting. The only problem...
