Not a puffy, but has anyone used the marmot stride vest? It's a driclime vest, basically a very light wind shell lined with fleece. Website lists it at 5.3 ounces.

Yes, trees are good. They break the wind considerably. I've camped under some large redwood trees in big sur during a heavy downpour. The area around our camp was pretty much dry.
