My Locale Western US
About Me Started backpacking in 1998 - US with some global travel (Pacific, Europe, Asia, northern Mexico). Semi-retired from a govt type job working on the side. Here to hike more comfortably and maybe a bit furtherfaster while still stopping for scenery. Finished my 20F kit, .. starting on a 45F one (both interchangeable).

Gear list was for 3 days but made it almost as a "24-hour" adventure (like 25 hours) using the Z-pack

Re: Oily skin and down bags
With oily skin, I make sure I'm sleeping in some sort of balaclava. A down hood (for my quilt) would be added over the balaclava. Much easier cleaning fleece than down.

Re: "Generally not invading our neighbours"
Russia has always pushed a sphere of influence in that direction and specifically, they are going to keep that warm water port in Crimea. As stated before, the Russians took over Crimea in the 17...

Anaphylactic shock always possible?
A little overkill and not meaning to get the conversation away from ticks but last I read there were some similarities in the human immune response to all venom. Last time I read anything on allerg...

US tick distribution maps by species (CDC)
Found one on my lower leg at about 10,000 ft northwest of Albuquerque (Jemez mountains) 2 summers ago, so altitude doesn't seem to matter: http://www.cdc.gov/ticks/geographic_distribution.ht...

Re: ULA vs Gossemer Gear
Tough choice. Having backpacked with both, the ULA Circuit has a larger main body volume and sat higher on my back than the Gossamer Gear Gorilla . The ULA Circuit has a cavernous roll top but it...
