My Locale Sunshine State
About Me Began hiking in the Carolinas, some in Virginia and now in Florida - much less variation in terrain, I'm sad to say, but beautiful in its own right. A Gatewood Cape w/Serenity is my primary solo shelter nowadays.

I'm also into kayaking & fishing.

Re: Please Explain
Jason, (My apologies, Yukio, if I get this wrong) It appears the ring is simply the frame for the foil. He molded the foil around the ring, then used the clips/clothespins(?) to give it the ...

Re: Down jackets vs. Primaloft
If you hike in your insulating layer, then it's a big risk. I wouldn't try it. If not, go with down!

Re: Under 100 bucks
Brett, The Equinox tarps are actually well made and durable. I haven't heard of many failures of the grommets, but if that is a concern you could sew, or hand stitch, small grosgrain tabs n...

Re: FBC Cozy from 1/8" Foam Pad?

Re: Inside or Out
What do you all do about that big long "hole" in your "bag" Lightweight bivy. I've never had my pad inside my quilt, FWIW.

Re: Cleanliness on the trail
On 1-2 night trips I use wet wipes, but you're right--they don't work too well - just good enough to get by. What works best for me is scrubbing w/water (you can warm it 1st :) ) using a...

Re: MiniBullDesigns six loop beer can pot stand
Michael, Tinny's pot stand is no joke. Not welded---just connects to itself be bends in the metal. The wings on a Gram Cracker actually block some wind, thereby yielding the great efficien...

Re: How do I avoid chafing?
Keep the area clean (ie: wet wipes or wash in a creek) at least once/day. Also, Bodyglide/Sportslick helps a lot on clean skin. Tight synthetic/merino helps too, but some don't need it.
