My Locale Bridger Mountains
About Me I backback most frequently in the Rockies, and most often take three-day trips. Over the past fifteen years I've served as a Forest Service volunteer in Wyoming and Montana, doing trail maintenance. As I get older I'm always looking for ways to lighten my pack load but I'm far from ultralight. I especially like base camp trips, with day hikes from a fixed camp.

Unless you're limiting use of a Back Country Blanket to 50+ F, I don't think it will work for two adults. Mine is narrow for me - I'm 6'4" - and works as a top quilt for two on...

For years I've used a short pad, primarily for less bulk, not less weight. Then last summer and fall I tested the BA Q Core, then available only in regular length. It spoiled me, really keeping...

External frame packs
One of my backpacking pals takes his 4 x 5 camera set up on some trips and has designed an external frame pack to store the various pieces. Quite ingenious. I'd say ready access to various pock...

Freeze-dried ice cream
Steve, keep us posted. Every one of these I have tried is, after adding water, a gooey mess that tastes something like milk and pure sugar, two flavors I detest, and nothing like ice cream. Richard
