My Locale Northern California
About Me I have been backpacking since I was five. I am a neurologist with an understanding wife and three children. My family enjoys backpacking and just about anything else outdoors.

In 2004 I set the supported record on the John Muir Trail--3 days and 21 hours--which was eclipsed in 2007. I finished my 10th Western States in 2009 and proudly wear my 1000 mile buckle. A nap in an off-trail sunny meadow is one of my favorite ways to spend an hour. Skinny-dipping in high mountain lakes is a major practice of my religion.

Re: To Pack or Not to Pack? What constitutes an 'essential' item in a lightweight hiker's overnight pack?

Thanks!
I plan to do the trip counter-clockwise so that when I get back to the Colorado Trail I'll just keep on heading into Durango. I love high camps and if the night was right (no clouds/impendin...

Yeah!!
This seems like a great deal. They said airport pickup and Silverton drop off for $60-80. Not cheap but I'm happy to pay it.

Silverton Shuttle
Thanks. The bus leaves at 6:45am according to the Greyhound schedule so if I had to overnight I'd at least get an early start Sunday. It costs only $17 which is pretty sweet--comparing with $...
