My Locale Western US
About Me Mostly 2 to 3 day loops, with a couple weeklong trips too, likely going 2 weeks or more with upcoming severance. Lightening up but with an eye towards toughness and hiking convenience (secure drying on the trail. quick set up, etc...), but also a bit better food (and beverage) for most overnights. Then again I might want to do a spartan "fast n'light" overnight ... and the gear closet grows.
I'll update my gear list tomorrow ...

Roll
Lighter weight loads but there's also the tendency for frameless packs to roll cylindrically with too much stuff. May bug some people, others not. Add: the old version of the Granite Gear V...

Re: Los Padres Overnight.
Nice except for the bear sign. Not sure I'd sleep tight. How's the water situation in the creeks up there? (Think I'll ask pre-trip too)

Still layering ...
One of the buildings I work in has a messed up HVAC, so I need to layer. A cold day can trigger a furnace in one part of the building and an icebox in the other. If working summer, I have to assum...

Re: Weather for southern AZT and western Grand Enchantment Trail (AZ and NM) in Mid-March to Mid-April
Depends on the snowpack and whether it's a very good year. The western part of NM's GET (around Whitewater Baldy) could have packed snow linger into June. If it is a good year, you can ca...

Re: The Range of Light: Fastpacking the John Muir Trail in Under a Week
Great article, with the trial and tribulations faced (self-doubt, hungry bear altering the gear list, etc...).
