Re: What size of daypack is everyone using?
As far as I know, I have 3 essentials. Water, food, and insulation. I've gone all day with a nathan hpl 20, (about 3 litters). This was going up in the high sierras and way above 10k feet....

I would acclimatize for a week just before labor day then run the Silverton 1000 Mile Challenge. http://www.silvertonspecialevents.com/silverton_special_events_033.htm

I made one with the liberty ridge pattern with a 10" zipper that came out to 2.3 ounces using momentum 90. The pattern is very easy to make.

Re: 800 f/p down
Maybe it's time to put down a 120 pound order. Then it only come to $2.65 an ounce, (cheapest I've found 800 fill).

Re: Re: Down sleeping bag with synthetic overquilt
You will stay much warmer with a synthetic bag and a down quilt inside. It works much better to both fill all the empty air space in a bag plus adding loft instead of just adding loft on top.

Re: Re: Re: Vest? Sure.
The best way to do this is to sew two lines 1/4" apart and cut in the middle. make it about 3/4" longer than you would want the vest to be at and just do a double fold to hide the cut an...
