My Locale Minnesota
About Me 43, and in some of the best shape of my life after losing 50 lbs a couple years ago. I've always loved getting "out there" and backpacking is one of my preferred ways. I spend as much time as I can backpacking and car camping with my kids during the Summer. I'm an avid target shooter and enjoy kayaking with my family, ATVing and snowmobiling, and just about anything that get's me in the outdoors.

Abrasion?
Duane, I'm not sure what kind of "abrasion" you're worried about. My dog's nails haven't ripped or scratched the 10D after waling across it a dozen times. I've not h...

8 = 10
Thanks Tim, I didn't realize that 8D is now 10D. Good to know.

Plenty tough
Jennifer, the pack your dog carries looks familiar ;-) Duane, I can't speak specifically for the 10D as mine is 8D, but close enough me thinks. It's plenty strong, I have no worries...

Get the 10D
Duane, just get the 10D, you'll never regret going as light as you could, but I've often regretted not just getting the lightest of something the first time around.

Adjusting to the cold
I completely agree that your body adjusts. I'm not sure what the physiology is, but here in MN it was -15F this morning, not the wind chill, the temperature. After a week or two of this, then...

No leakage either
I haven't seen any leakage from my 8D/8D 40F either. Tim makes a great quilt.

Both Good choices
I have both a Rev 40F 8D/8D and a RevX 20F. While the 10D is certainly softer than the 30D, I find the 30D still pretty darn soft, don't forget that 30D is considered an ultralight fabric for ...

Bravo
Fantastic short film. I share the same concerns to what's happening with this generation. The outdoors is good for the soul and provides a richness to life that many other experiences can'...

Great pack and greater service
I didn't see a thread anywhere else mentioning this, so I thought I'd chime in. I love this pack. It's very comfortable and carries my usual Fall 12 lb base weight extremely well, the...

Ursack
I love my Ursack, I usually never put it more than 50 ft from my tent, but always 4-5 feet off the ground just to keep some of the small critters from having a chance at it. I also use an Opsack t...

Enlightened Equipment Revelation X
This was my first quilt, and I couldn't be happier. I needed a new cold weather bag, so I went with the 20F 6' Wide and had the 30% over stuff. The loft on this quilt is incredible, more tha...

gossamer murmur
I would have liked to give the 2012 Murmur a 4.5 if I could have. My only criticism is that the stitching is not as well done as I would have expected. There were a few loose threads in some of the ...

REI Revelcloud Jacket
I actually liked a lot about this jacket, but I ended up returning it to REI for one simple reason - it didn't keep me warm. The fit and quality is excellent, I especially like the breast pocke...

I couldn't ask for more in a lightweight down insulating layer. The MB UL Down Inner Parka is awesome in every regard. The fit of the XL is perfect for me and leaves plenty of room for a fleec...

I spent a fair amount of time researching the available pads before I upgraded to an UL sleeping pad. My sleep and rest is too important to me to use a foam mat, as a side sleeper, I need more suppor...
