I wouldn't bother with it but if you MUST have a footprint under your tent, use non-waterproof fabric that does not absorb much water (light wt polyester is better for that but nylon will work)...

Alvie, Don't worry about the POSSIBILITY of tearing out a grommet. If you use the tarp in the wind it is a CERTAINTY unless the grommet was installed by a good sail maker. Webbing loops ...
