My Locale Southern California
About Me I live in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. I can get to a lot of nice hiking areas right from my street or travel for 15 minutes to higher elevations in the Angeles National Forrest. I started packing again with my sons in their Boy Scout troop. I was definitely not light that first trip 6 years ago and have been reducing my pack weight ever since. I mainly pack a few times a year in the Eastern and Western Sierras.

I have a Weekender and use it in my Mariposa Plus. I am glad to hear it fits in the Gorilla since that is probably my next pack. I pack mine the same. Stuff on bottom; canister on top. Except for o...

Why Platypus?
I think it has to do with the philosophy of the lightweight packer. Camelbacks are systems. They have packs you place them in so you can wear them. That makes them heavy. I have seen many a hik...

I would suggest you do what you originally had on your list regarding water: 1 Liter Platy + Soda Bottle (make sure it is a wide mouth). I use the soda bottle all day as I drink and then if I need ...

I used a Mariposa Plus on my JMT hike a few years ago. Our longest resupply was also from MTR to Whitney Portal. We had 8 days for that stretch. The Mariposa Plus has plenty of room but for me it i...

We used a MSR Miox on a trip with 9 people (Scouts). We got very spotty results and ended up playing with the unit more than we wanted. It seemed like the perfect solution but was not worth the wait. ...
