My Locale Oregon and Washington
About Me I started hiking about 45 years ago. My first backpack was 40 years ago. I currently try to do one backpack trip of 5 nights every month (which can be tricky in the winter) 20 to 50 miles. Mostly I stay around Mount Hood, Columbia Gorge, Mount Adams, Goat Rocks, and the Olympic Peninsula. In recent years I have shifted to lightweight - my pack weight without food and water is about 15 lb (7 kg). I make a lot of my own gear - silnylon tarp-tent, bivy, synthetic bag, simple bag style pack. My sleeping pad is a Therm-a-Rest air mattress.

How do you wash DWR out of fabric? It seems like they always like to put in DWR, but usually, I don't want it.

That looks really nice 26 oz total 6 inch wide baffles, 2 inch deep baffles. I see they bow out quite a bit. What do you think the actual loft is? Have you slept in it? How does the M50...

Re: 4 Mil Polycro Tarp Material in Green; 20'X100'
4 mil polyethylene is about 2.5 oz/yd2 which should be about the same as polycro. Standard silnylon is 1.5 oz/yd2 and and typical Cuben is 0.7 oz/yd2. a little heavy for a lightweight tarp ...

I don't think we disagree about this that much, Ben. "How about giving other societies their time and space to debate for themselves?" So, don't publish pictures of Mohamm...

Good point Bob - I've had aluminum in the butane flame and it was just fine - maybe glowed red Aluminum melts at 1200 F, but aluminum oxide melts at a much higher temperature
