wood fire.
I forgot to mention that I almost always use wood fires so packing in more fuel won't be an issue. It MIGHT be a good idea to experiment with using a neoprene or foam cozy for the 1L bottle ...

Using hot water bottles as 'cached heat'
This is a trick I've been using for a while with pretty solid success. I thought of it independently but hammockforums has a sticky about it and it's a bit thread there. Wood is essen...

Re: Re: The barbaric cost of your winter coat
I eat meat, fish, own down jackets, etc. I just try to make sure I'm not a monster. I need to be able to explain to my kids what is happening. If I can't go and do it myself then...

Re: Latest, Lightest Solar Charges?
That Pico thing looks cool but 50g? No way that's the weight *including* the battery. I suspect they're playing games. Seems too good to be true. Though they DO say 14 hours to ch...

Re: Dan, question about your winter setup
Well even if you install a stove jack on a tarp it isn't TOO big of an issue to just have two of them. A tarp is only about $100-200 even for the best tarps so just have two. I think I ...

Is cuben fiber flammable?
I assume it probably is flammable because if it wasn't they would be touting it as a feature left and right. That said, I can't find any information on the Interwebs about its fire retar...

Re: Hot tent
I think the issue here is the fire hazard. Silnylon + fire isn't a good idea. Is this a common setup or are you a one off? Camping with fire+silnylon doesn't seem like a good idea.

tarp..
I guess that's a good point. I don't REALLY need the hot tent but it just looks SO inviting to be able to retire into a warm tent for 4 hours until it's time for sleep. It seems co...
