My Locale Midwest
About Me I am in my late-40's and really got interested in backpacking about 10 years ago as a way to have some concentrated time with my boys, now all finishing up high school or in college. I try to get out a few times a year, including a bi-annual trip to Colorado for some of the big stuff. Otherwise I am stuck in the very boring midwest where everything exciting is a good day's drive away.

Very small
I have the Fly Creek Platinum 2 and it is a very small tent. I would never attempt to use it for two people. It also got a small hole on the floor after its first use. The fabric is very delicat...

I like buying whole grain pita's and filling them with tuna in the foil pouches that already has salad dressing mixed in. Also good to add relish in the single serving packs. Easy to pack, li...

Big range
I did a Smokies hike last September and found the valleys to be very pleasant and very comfortable at night. I spent the last night on a ridge just below Clingman's Dome and a storm blew in. ...

Like the original poster, I wanted to string together some 20 mile days last year for the first time. So I did a 57 mile loop in the Smokies. Lots of great food advice so I won't touch on tha...

Got it!
Very surprised but I finally got my Tewa quilt yesterday, almost 3 months after ordering and being promised a 2 week delivery. A lot of pleading, shaming, emailing to Mike to make it happen. Hope...

Retaillers are a problem
Interesting thread. I think that retailers are the biggest problem of people taking way too much on the trail. I love my beloved REI but they drive me crazy. Everytime I go in there I overhear o...

Te-Wa Underquilts still in business?
Has anyone ordered a hammock UQ from Te-Wa in the last few months? I ordered an UQ in May and still have not received it. I exchanged email with Mike once during that time and he said he was work...
