My Locale Southern California
About Me I was born in Kansas City,MO. but raised in Riverside,CA before moving to Orange County, CA in 1989. I developed a love for backpacking in the Boy Scouts as a kid so, in 2004, I joined a local Hiking and Backpacking Club. My lightweight testimony has been an evolving story. I started out in 2004 with a base weight around 40 lbs, made a transitional reduction to 30 lbs and then to 25 lbs over the last couple of years. Now, with the help of BPL forums, I am down to about 14 1/2 lbs including a bear canister.

re:What's in your pockets

You can pick up fuel at Muir Trail Ranch. You can also pick up a resupply there. I have used this service before and it is quite reliable.

re: Gorilla vs. MariposaPlus
From the GG website it looks like the Gorilla is almost as heavy as the Mariposa Plus due to the heavier denier fabric. Are there durability issues with the Mariposa Plus (assuming we are not testi...

re:Ohm vs. Gorilla ??
Dan, I went to the ULA site and selected "Order" for the Ohm. It starts out at 24oz then, if you select large, it changes it to 25oz. If you any extras it goes up from there. The Goril...

Ohm vs. MariposaPlus
Moving to a pack without pockets, a top compartment, and a sleeping bag compartment was kind of tough at first. I felt like completely unorganized. My first pack like this is the Vapor Trail. Now I...

I purchased the Big Agnes SL1 three years ago and I have spent at least 30 nights in it. I am only 6 ft tall so the length is actually perfect for me. The real beauty of this tent is that it is light ...
