Re: family gear upgrade: sleeping bags --> quilts

Re: Non-trekking pole PCT hikers: do you think trekking poles are actually justified in the Sierra?
Lots of opinions already, but I'll add mine: Stumbling through suncupped snow without a trekking pole sucks. I speak from experience. You'll waste a ton of energy on snowy sections without ...

Re: Re
I would not use the odor eliminator. Sounds like you have the washing process correct. I've had to dry sleeping bags and jackets for 4+ hours before to get all the clumps gone and get them c...

Re: Clothing critique
Also very similar to what I bring, except I don't bring a down hat or booties. I also use a Cap4 instead of an R1; the R1 was always too hot for me on the move. Is the Cap1 worn during the d...

Re: thermal pro
Fleece is one of the few materials that isn't all about marketing hype. There is a significant performance difference between the cheap stuff and Polartec. Not that the cheap stuff doesn't ...

zpacks Company
I had the same experience as everyone else here. Joe got me a customized piece of gear on time and was very responsive to my questions and requests. Can't do much better than that.
