My Locale Boulder, CO
About Me I started backpacking as a teenager in southern appalachia. My summers in college were spent in mountain heaven, glacier national park. Since then, I've lived and played in the high sierras, the cascades, and now the colorado front range. Walking into the mountains for a few days with a light pack never seems to lose its charm. Also a snapper of many photos. Check out my instagram for short visual trip reports and such.

Vapour-Rise Pants
I got the VR pants, something I probably wouldn't think to get if they weren't for $50, but they seem like they'll make a great winter action pant for skiing and hiking. They weigh less...

I know you're looking for a vest, Mike, but this is a very light synthetic jacket, I think < 6oz, made for exactly what you're describing.

Hi Alex, I didn't tinker with the frame sheet a whole lot, but it seemed quite stiff by virtue of a removable aluminum frame that goes behind a soft/supportive ventilated mesh and foam backpane...

rain shell
@woubeir yes, I wear my rain jacket over just a base layer and occasionally over a light puffy jacket. I usually wear an M or L, but went with an L for better coverage and enough room for a puffy l...

Re: Re: thickness and warmth
@Woubeir Yes, I deliberately bought a shell that would fit me well when worn in the rain over a base layer and over a puffy (without compression) for additional warmth.

late to the party
I can see this thread is a little old, but there are some cool ideas here. The list looks great, mike, and short of suggesting buying new gear, I'd only suggest leaving behind the cap 4's, ...

thickness and warmth
Just giving you my subjective feeling about it, but it seems a bit loftier than the nanopuff, and similarly warm under a shell. It feels about as warm as my arc nuclei, but cooler than the rab xeno...

looks like awesome
I went to see Aaron about a quilt today and saw the new packs. Wow, these look and feel like great packs. I've owned Aaron's bags for the last few years, and have always been impressed with...

Yeah, I definitely think this sort of niche SUL cottage (and non cottage) stuff allows for some ridiculous weight savings without much loss in functionality/comfort. The design on the vest is utter...

GLOWING initial impressions
I'm realizing I just gave a glowing review without a whole lot of experience in the jacket. Its definitely as awesome and unique as I say it is, but it might be a little challenging for UL back...

Rand was really helpful on two stove purchases. Answered all questions almost immediately and helped get a sidewinder made for me at a moment's notice for a trip. Couldn't as for better custom...

I'm very impressed with this pack. I tried out a few packs for a planned AT thru hike (didn't pan out yet), and this was far and a away my favorite. With the stay and sitpad, the pack conforms...
