Re: Need help picking a Montbell sleeping bag...
If you have the budget I suggest the 800 down because it will be the smallest, lightest bag. I use the #3 spiral and it has plenty of room, packs small and light. I am 73" 195 pounds and use ...

Re: NEMO Bivy vs. TarpTent
I am very happy with my TT Sublite and GG poles but have not used it in long heavy rain, it does well in Texas wind though. I have a MLD Solomid for foul weather. The Sublite Sil seems a better c...

Re: VA Appalachian Trail three season list. Please help me fill in the gaps and lose some more weight
I use a Montbell #3 and add clothing if needed in colder temps. You could save weight in your water bottles. I use platy's or reuse water bottles. I use NeoAir or Kookabay SAM pads and add a ...

Re: bear deterrent
After reading some books about bears being the faster of two may not help either. The bear catches the second and or knocks down the tree. It seems like being very careful-alert, lucky or being a...

Re: New to backpacking and need help on tent
I had a Sierra Designs 3 person tent from years ago, side entry. We used it for car camping and it worked fairly well. Heavy, double walled poly coated fly. Worked pretty will in all day rain in...

Re: Re: re: seen this?
+1 for the taut-line hitch, that and a bowline are my two most used knots. Pratice in the dark and rain until its right. You will never forget or spill it wrong.

Re: All purpose shelter for two people and large dog
I don't think a tent for three will be a good solo PCT shelter. I have a 3 person Tarptent weighing 40 ounces. My solo shelters (sublite or Solomid) at 20 ounces or less. I have not taken ou...

Icebreaker makes good products, expensive though. I use there hoodie, socks and gloves. I have Marmot and Driducks tops for rain gear. Driducks take up more space but are lighter and cheaper and...

Re: Re: Hmmm
If you are still considering 20 degrees take a look at Kookabay insulated pads. Minus 33 has good prices for wool tops and bottoms. A good sleeping bag is worth the bucks.
