My Locale Midwest
About Me I am in my late-40's and really got interested in backpacking about 10 years ago as a way to have some concentrated time with my boys, now all finishing up high school or in college. I try to get out a few times a year, including a bi-annual trip to Colorado for some of the big stuff. Otherwise I am stuck in the very boring midwest where everything exciting is a good day's drive away.

line locs
I like using the line locs personally, as they offer quick adjustments and are a breeze to use if your hands are cold. You should know how to tie an adjustable knot as well in a pinch. Zpacks se...

Look to WV
Hi Nick, welcome to Indy. For the tradeoff of a very low cost of living and safe living, you'll need to drive a good bit to good hiking and whitewater. I did some rafting in the Carolinas whic...

Great gear
I suspect that's because few here take a quilt down to the rated 5 degrees, but I may be wrong. I have their Palisades and absolutely love it. Very good loft and construction. Worth every pe...

ULA S harness is awesome!
I have the same problem you do, with shoulder harnesses digging into my neck. I have a bunch of Osprey packs which are problematic and Gossamer Gear shoulder straps were even worse. I went with t...

Very flimsy
I like Osprey packs for the most part (I have a lot of them) and bought a Hornet last year, via the internet. It had the flimsiest support I've ever seen on an Osprey and promptly returned it ...

Very tight for two
I have the BA FC Platinum UL 2 and I would never use it for two people, and especially two tall people. I use it to solo hike and I'm not sure it is worth the very high price. The materials a...

I have both
I have both the Exos and the Circuit. I find the Circuit's hip belt and suspension to be more comfortable if carrying over 20 lbs than the Exos. The Exos is typical Osprey--good looking and l...

Your Montbell should be fine
I just returned from climbing Kilimanjaro in September and I used a Montbell UL down jacket and was fine. I still had my Precip rain jacket to add if I needed to get warmer but I was warm without ...
